Meet Dr. Desai

Komal B. Desai, M.D. is a board-certified, fellowship-trained ocular oncologist at Sabates Eye Centers, serving patients in Kansas City. She specializes in ocular oncology.

Dr. Desai is involved in the diagnosis and treatment of all types of intraocular tumors, including retinoblastoma, melanoma and conjunctival tumors.

Dr. Desai earned her B.A. in Biology and Doctor of Medicine degree through University of Missouri – Kansas City School of Medicine’s six-year combined B.A./M.D. program.

She completed her ophthalmology residency at UMKC School of Medicine as well and subsequently completed a clinical/research fellowship in ocular oncology at the University of California in San Francisco.

Over her career, Dr. Desai has earned her status as an esteemed lecturer delivering presentations at the Mayo Clinic’s Ophthalmology Grand Rounds and the University of California at San Francisco’s Monthly Research Forum.Dr. Desai’s peer-review articles have been published in Ophthalmic Surgery and Lasers, Ophthalmic Plasticand Reconstructive Surgery, and Archives of Ophthalmology. She is actively involved in ongoing clinical research at the Eye Foundation of Kansas City and UMKC School of Medicine’s Department of Ophthalmology, where she is an associate professor. She is also involved with clinical research at the University of California at San Francisco.
