Dr. John Cottle earned his Bachelor of Science in forestry from the Michigan Technological University in 1997. He was awarded his Doctor of Optometry, cum laude, from Illinois College of Optometry (ICO), Chicago, in 2004.
During his educational experience at ICO, Dr. Cottle compiled an extensive student externship history. At the Veterans Affairs Clinic in Huntington, W. Va., he participated in advanced eye care with an emphasis in ocular disease cases with frequent management of diabetic eye disease, ARMD, glaucoma and cataract pre/postoperative care. Additionally, Dr. Cottle served at the Illinois Eye Institute and the Center for Advanced Medicine, University of Chicago Hospital. During these assignments, his emphasis included low-vision rehabilitation services, pediatric eye care and rotations in neuro-ophthalmology, oculo-plastics, glaucoma and retina service.
Dr. Cottle has earned several distinguished honors and awards. Among them, he received a Trustees Scholarship from 2000-2004, was elected president of the student chapter of the American Academy of Optometry (ICO) and was a member of the Tomb and Key Honor Fraternity at ICO.
