SPECIALIZES IN CORNEAL SURGERY, EXTERNAL DISEASES, AND CATARACT SURGERY
Dr. Herretes received her medical degree from the Central University of Venezuela JM Vargas school of Medicine, graduating first in her class. After a year of surgery internship at Saint Louis University Hospital, she completed her ophthalmology residency at the University of Missouri Kansas City, where she was named Chief Resident in her final year. She then received subspecialty training in cornea, ocular surface, and refractive surgery at the University of Missouri Columbia.
Dr. Herretes has an extensive research and publication history in the areas of cornea, ocular surface and ocular immunology. She completed post-doctoral fellowships at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, University of Miami, FL, as well as the Wilmer Eye institute, Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore MD.
Dr. Herretes has won several honors and awards, which include the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical society. She is fluent in Spanish and will be practicing mainly in our Northland location as well as our practices at University Health and St. Luke’s on the Plaza.
